Happy Summer!!

This week the students all finished publishing their stories Fortunately, Unfortunately.  As you can see in the photo below of our Author's Tree, your children are definitely authors and should be proud of themselves!  All year we have featured different popular authors!  Be sure to have your child read their story to you they are near the back of their memory books!  A huge thank you to Landon's mom who made all the apples for us on her Cricut!

Your child has brought home all their books and school supplies.  I hope you all have an opportunity to look through your child's work as well as their memory book.  They were all very excited to make their photo collages yesterday so I'm sure they will be excited to show you.  In both their Reader's Workshop and Math duotangs there is work that can be completed over the summer.   They also have their writing books which they could continue to use to write in.  I hope all the students continue to use Raz Kids over the summer, I have increased their levels so they will have some new books to enjoy.  If you are wanting more math - go to the Online K-5 Math Worksheets on the side of this blog.

Music with Dr. Saul is always amazing!  These last few weeks we have been singing campfire songs, it can't get any better!

Just another picture to show how much Div. 11 students love to build with lego!

Thank you to all parents for contributing to our class celebrations this year by sending in goodies, they were really appreciated and enjoyed by Div. 11.

Thank you to everyone for your support this year,  I loved working with your children and getting to know all of you even though it was at a distance or over zoom!  This is a year none of us will forget!      I really appreciated your generous gifts, thanks so much.

Hope you all have a wonderful summer!

Next week your child will be bringing home all their books, supplies plus their inside shoes either on Wednesday and/or Thursday. Their memory books, growthfolios and report cards will come home Friday.  If possible please bring a bag for your child to transport their supplies in as usually they don't fit in backpacks.  Thanks!

June 10/21

PUBLIC LIBRARY CARDS went home on Tuesday.  Div. 11 students were very excited to see these! Hopefully you will all have the opportunity to go to the public library soon so that your child can borrow some books, a backpack or even a telescope!

In the last couple of weeks in math we have been focusing more on early multiplication.  We were talking about the fact that multiplication just means 'groups of' and that skip counting is actually a great thing to practice to help you do mulitplication.  If you could please practice skip counting by 2's and 5's that would be very helpful.

*Please ensure that your child is dressed for some outdoor activities (shorts should be worn under dresses/skirts and shoes should be appropriate for activity-no flip flops, please)

*Just a reminder that we are a 'West coast Recess' district which means we are outside every recess/lunch (rain or shine).  Please ensure that your child has appropriate clothes for outside, as well as shoes that allow them to be active every day.

*Our Scientist of the Day is now complete. This week we experienced 'Elephant Toothpaste', how heavy objects can float if in a boat, and how oil is lighter than water plus what happens if you add an Alka-Seltzer to this mixture! I was very impressed by how well prepared the students were for their day and the fact that I had never seen several of the experiments.  Everyone did a great job!

*Class photos were sent home Monday.  They are in the front pouch of your child's planner.

*Summer birthdays will be celebrated over the next couple of weeks (in case you are wondering why your child is wearing a birthday bracelet/sticker :))

Your children wanted me to add this to the blog - SPCA Home Workshops over the summer!! Here's is the flyer:

June 4th

This week we had our 'Public Library Zoom field trip'!  The students were excited to hear all the things that are available to take out from the library as well as the idea of all the possible books they could read!  Every summer they have a special summer reading program which I hope all of Div. 11 will join.  It's fun and a great way to maintain and strengthen their reading skills that they have worked so hard on this year.  Please see attachment in the email.

We have had another exciting week of scientists!!  Friction Fun, How clouds hold water, Milk, food colouring soap experiment, Float/Sink, and how to make slime!  Ask your child also about the experiment we did with celery to show how water gets to the top of trees.
