Smencil Sale TOMORROW...                                                                                                          

Leadership Students have chosen to host a Smencil sale to benefit the BCSPCA.   

When: April 30th at lunch.    

How: Leadership students will be coming around (coffee cart style) to sell Smencils door-to-door to each class during lunch.                                                                                   

How Much:  1 for $3, 2 for $5,  3 for $8, 4 for $10, 5 for $13, 6 for $15, 7 for $18, 9 for $20

Thank you for reminding and encouraging your child to bring and wear a mask at school.  I have noticed a decline in mask wearing these last couple of weeks and hope we can get back on track as the numbers continue to be high.   Our classroom door and window is still being kept open to help with the ventilation. 

Please remind your child that they are not to be bringing toys or items from home (like stuffies, etc) With Covid it is important that these things stay at home.

Memory Book $10!  Please pay on the parent portal as soon as possible. Thanks to those who have already paid on the parent portal.

We are just finishing both our body/nutrition unit and our courage.  Discuss with your child the highlights. They will soon be bringing home their 'Body' project and courage creations.  They did amazing work on both of these!

EARTH DAY bulletin board...    I was very impressed with the students ideas of ways to protect our planet.  A perfect lead in to our new unit on the environment!   

                                         

Book Taste Testing Activity!  When they arrived on Thursday morning they said the classroom looked like they were at a wedding! All the students were very engaged and seemed to enjoy exploring different genres of books (fiction/non-fiction, fantasy, science fiction, graphic novels, autobiographies, biographies, mystery).  They definitley had their opinions of what genre of books that they liked best.

April 16th

Spring is finally here and it is so nice to be enjoying this fantastic weather.  On Wednesday for Forest Fun and Learning we read a great book called Swirl by Swirl.  We then went on a shape hunt of all the natural shapes we could find in the forest and afterwards made a variety of shapes using natural objects we found. See some of their cool 'shape' collections below...

Thursday we started our final courage projects using modeling clay (like Barbara Reid!!) to create a scene of us using our courage!  The students are so creative and enjoying this art!  We will show you pictures of our final projects!

Monday, April 19th is green day!  If possible children should wear green to support Earth Day and our leadership students!

This week a new Scholastic order went home.  If you would like to order, please use our class code:       RC 250266

Our spelling words are more challenging this term,  so it is important that you review the words (the phonetic rule of the week e.g.) this week was ai/ay  for green and or for the blue group).  A reminder to please check with your child on Wednesday/Thursday nights to see if they have spelling homework.  Also check out the Spelling City link on this blog as extra practice.  

Your child has or will be bringing home their Body System Book/plus another My Body Book (they were put in the secret pouch of their planners) please have your child read these to you  or read together.  

I wanted to let you know that in the near future I will put on the parent portal an announcement for $10.00 per student for their  memory book.  Included in this price is the binder, photos, collages and colour photocopying.  Students and parents in the past have loved this keepsake!  

Needed:  Kleenex! If anyone has a box they could donate to the class, that would be appreciated as the school is right out!

April 1st/21

It was great to see everyone after our spring break.  The students were very engaged in our Collaborative Writing Project.  They worked with a partner, with a set of words to create a story.  They seemed to love this activity and wrote very interesting stories.  

Div. 11 made these cool Easter Baskets pictures. I love how they all turned out so unique!!

     The students had lots of fun this afternoon with our 'Moon Shoes'!!

As most of you have probably heard and seen, there is now a mask mandate for Gr. 4 -12 and for K-3 they are strongly recommending children also wear mask.  With the constantly rising number of cases I do recommend and appreciate when the students wear masks and they have shared that they too feel safer when more of us are wearing them.  Especially when we have at exposures at Fairview.  Thank you so much for your support and encouragement with this!
